The story of Saaga's Icelandic horses

Saagan Issikat is an Icelandic horse stable that focuses on organizing riding treks in nature. The stable is run and managed by Susanna, the daughter of an entrepreneurial family and a true all-rounder. She began her horse hobby as a little girl, and the family's first Icelandic horses inspired her mother, Hannele, to organize riding treks in Lapland near the Levi fell. Over time, this trekking stable became known as Lapin Saaga.
After moving to the coastal city of Oulu, Susanna started to look for a suitable stable where she could go and enjoy trail riding together with friendly horse companions. However, she couldn't quite find what she was looking for, so together with the mother, she decided to bring a few of their Icelandic horses from Levi to Oulu. Susanna realized that the locals in Oulu were looking for exactly this kind of relaxed trail riding experience with horses and so she wanted to share that joy with others. So began the discussions about expanding Lapin Lapin Saaga's riding trek operations to Oulu's seaside landscapes, and thus Lapin Saaga expanded from Lapland to the Northern Ostrobothnia region with a second location.
Lapin Saaga has gained popularity in Levi among winter tourists and travelers, so in late autumn, the horses that spent their summer in Oulu travel to Levi for the winter season. However, every spring in Oulu brings eager anticipation, as the regular customers of the Virpiniemi stable begin counting the days until the Icelandic horses return for their summer work in Oulu and the trail riding season of the summer begins again.

Saagan Issikat organizes riding treks and other horse-related activities from late spring until autumn in the beautiful seaside landscapes of Virpiniemi, Oulu. Whether you are a more experienced horse enthusiast or a complete beginner, you are welcome to join for a riding trek either by yourself or together with your loved ones, without forgetting our gentle and charming Icelandic horses.
Our stable's activities are based on solid expertise and, above all, the well-being of our horses. Through what we do, we want to ensure that riders who come to us can forget their everyday worries for a moment by sitting in the saddle and enjoying Oulu's beautiful landscapes, as well as the thrill of speed on the straight galloping track. However, everything is done with the horses' well-being and overall safety in mind. We maintain a relaxed atmosphere at our stable where both people and horses are respected, so that everyone can feel welcome on our treks.
As operators in the equine industry, environmental well-being and sustainability are also highly important to us. Our activities in Oulu mainly focus on moving through nature and along the seashore, so all our treks and activities are planned and carried out with respect for Finland's beautiful nature.
